Abstract:
Graphene sheets—oneatomthick twodimensional layers of sp2bonded carbon—are novel nanofillers for composites with many unique properties. Graphene has attracted much attention from physical and materials scientists since became available in 2004. Here the preparation, characterization and modification routes of oxidized graphite, oxidized graphene and graphene based polymer composites are reviewed. Future research and possible applications are also discussed. Largescale synthesis and application of oxidized graphene sheets can be achieved by mechanical exfoliation of graphite oxide, further chemical functionalization and dispersion in a polymer matrix. Such a method has become a strategic starting point for the industrial application of graphene, and remarkable progress has been made in the last few years.
